My 2025-2026 portfolio's explored themes:
The modern world is abundant with technology that’s built on top of centuries of culture and faith that possess heavy influence over the intrinsic purpose of the mechanical. Creation stories often express tales of the divine and the mortal, the higher power and the lower being, the creator and the creation. Technology is humanity’s counterpart in the cycle of creation, and serves as the vessel for which people express their desire to assert themselves over something else to mimic the divine. In what ways can I visually express these relationships between the divine, the flesh, and the machine?
The human form is expressed through the use of oil pastels or watercolors and organic shapes. The mechanical, on the other hand, is more rigid, consisting of pen/ink, straight lines, and standing in stark contrast against the naturalness of the flesh. The divine, similar to how it’s incorporeal and intangible in real life, isn’t explicitly depicted, but instead is alluded to through imagery such as “holy” poses, the creator/maker, or a sense of disconnect. Throughout the pieces, a connection between each subject will be portrayed through both personal, historical, or abstract interpretation.
